Why The Secret South

Some of the best days on the road were never planned. This is where our love of the South began.

BEHIND THE ROUTES

A Different Way To Experience The South

Some of the best days we have had on the road were never planned. A wrong turn onto a quiet main street. A diner someone mentioned in passing. A chat with a local that sent the whole afternoon in a new direction. Those are the moments that made us fall for the American South.

We are a couple from Southern New South Wales, Australia. Over the years we have lived, worked and travelled across more than thirty US states by road and rail. We have seen the big cities and the famous sights, but we kept finding ourselves drawn back to the South. Not for the headline attractions, but for the places in between.

Quiet main streets. Family owned diners, local music venues, historic inns. Roadside oddities that make you pull over, and small towns that rarely make a guidebook but so often become the most memorable part of a trip.

We have slept in grand old hotels, cabins, houseboats and independent guesthouses. We have wandered through wineries, breweries and distilleries, hunted down great food, lost afternoons in antique stores, walked historic sites and followed scenic roads just to see where they ended up.

Travel has never been about ticking off a list for us. It is about getting to know a place through its people, its food, its history and its landscape. The Secret South brings all of that together, years of travel experience, careful research and a real affection for the character of the American South.

Every itinerary we build reflects the interests of the traveller. History, music, food, festivals, local culture, sporting events, scenic drives, distinctive places to stay, or simply the pleasure of stumbling on something unexpected.

Our aim is a simple one. To help you experience the South in a way that feels personal, memorable and entirely your own.
